Holocaust survivors participate in a beauty contest

When the idea of this particular beauty pageant was born in 2012 it received both praise and criticism. Three years later, and 70 years after that execrable stage of history, 13 survivors of the tragedy have come forward to participate in the contest in the northern Israeli city of Haifa. Rita Berkowitz, 83, was the winner of this edition. According to a study by the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, between 15 and 20 million people died or were admitted to the more than 42,000 concentration camps, ghettos, factories and other detention sites extended over much of Europe.
