Taliban shoot down UN helicopter and capture 18 people
According to the RIA Novosti agency, Afghan army forces tried to free the hostages, but could not overcome the resistance of the Taliban, who have vowed to execute the hostages if the army forces do not withdraw from the country. In recent months, the situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated significantly because much of the country’s rural areas are still dominated by insurgents.
Taliban shot down a Moldovan UN helicopter and have captured the 18 crew members aboard. The helicopter was on a peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.
