Frozen mummy of Incan boy reveal unknown genetic lineage

The mummy is of an Andes seven-year-old boy that died after being sacrificed during a religious ritual called “capacocha”, five centuries ago. Researchers believe this lineage appeared 14,000 years ago and entered during one of the first waves of expansion through America.

In 1985 a frozen mummy of an Incan boy was found at the base of ‘ Cerro Pirámide’ mountain. A team of Spanish and Argentinian researchers has analyzed the DNA, identifying a new unknown genetic lineage: C1bi.
