Indonesia digs up their dead, dresses and parades them in the streets
For hundreds of years, every three years residents of this town dig up their loved ones to give them a “proper” funeral. Many save their whole lives to do so. They believe the spirits will protect them for it.
The festivity strengthens ties with those “on the other side.” In Sulawasi the dead are unearthed, cleaned and dressed with their very best to parade with them during the Ma’Nene Festival.
