Dozens of women walk on children so the Sun blesses them

Hindus celebrate the festival of the Sun God with sacrifices, offerings and celebrations during the Chhath in Calcutta. Among the offerings, elderly women walk over children so the Sun God blesses them.

The four-day festival also includes holy baths, fastenings, and abstaining from drinking water. In Hinduism, the Chhath is an offering to thank Surya for life on Earth, and an occasion to make petitions. Hindus believe the Sun can heal diseases like leprosy.
