According to the United Nation, 2,400 million people lack adequate sanitation and almost a billion lack bathroom facilities and are forced to relieve themselves in open spaces. Among the Millennium Development Goals of the UN is that of halving the proportion of people without access to basic sanitation. But according to the UN secretary general, Ban Ki -moon, this will be «the least achieved goal.»

On the UN’s World Toilet Day, the organization recalls that one of the culprit factors of diseases and malnutrition are the poor conditions of sanitation and hygiene, which affects a third of the world population.
