More Mexicans leave than enter the US
The study further confirms a scenario that has been a trend in the past ten years: Not only are Mexican immigrants returning to their country, but the number of Mexicans who emigrate to the US has also been greatly reduced. In 2007 there were 12.8 million Mexicans in the US, now the figure has dropped to 11.7 million. In regards to Mexicans who immigrated to the United States from 1995 to 2000, about 3 million entered the country, but in the 2005-2010 period the tendency dropped and only 1.4 million Mexicans emigrated at that time. More than 60% returned to Mexico due to family reunification.
