New case of Ebola in Liberia, a virus-free country since September
The World Health Organization has confirmed the case without giving further information. Liberia had already been declared Ebola free in May, but new cases emerged in late June and six additional cases were then confirmed. Sierra Leone, one of the three African countries affected by the Ebola epidemic, was also recently declared Ebola free, while in Guinea the first two weeks without any reported case have passed. This epidemic, which was declared in March 2014, has caused about 29,000 cases and over 11,000 deaths in the three countries.
