Year’s worth of rain hits Qatar in a day

Part of Qatar has been flooded after a heavy storm, which has forced the closure of schools and kindergartens. According to the Meteorological Department in the country the equivalent of a year’s rainfall was recorded in one day.

About 79.5 millimeters fell at the international airport in Doha Hamad, Qatar Airways headquarters. The usually hot, desert country receives about 50 millimeters of rain a year. Many people have been rescued by boat .
