Taylor Swift habla de sus ideas políticas por primera vez y muestra su apoyo a los demócratas

La cantante Taylor Swift siempre había evitado hablar de política, al menos públicamente, hasta ahora. La artista ha anunciado en su cuenta de Instagram que, en las elecciones del 6 de noviembre en Estados Unidos, dará su voto a los candidatos demócratas del estado de Tennessee Phil Bredesen y Jim Cooper.

Su silencio político era interpretado como un apoyo a Donald Trump y a los republicanos, por lo que su muestra pública de apoyo a los demócratas ha sido una sorpresa.

“En el pasado he sido reacia a hablar públicamente de mis opiniones políticas, pero debido a varios eventos en mi vida y en el mundo en los últimos dos años, me siento muy diferente acerca de eso ahora”, ha dicho la artista, que vota en el estado de Tennessee.

I’m writing this post about the upcoming midterm elections on November 6th, in which I’ll be voting in the state of Tennessee. In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now. I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent. I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love. Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values. I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives. Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway. So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do. October 9th is the LAST DAY to register to vote in the state of TN. Go to vote.org and you can find all the info. Happy Voting! 🗳😃🌈

Taylor Swift ha asegurado que siempre decidirá su voto en función del candidato que “proteja y luche por los derechos humanos que creo que todos merecemos en este país”. Ha añadido que cree en los derechos LGTB y ha criticado el “racismo sistémico que todavía vemos en este país”.

La cantante ha hecho especial mención en su publicación de la candidata por el estado de Tennessee Marsha Blackburn. “Por mucho que en el pasado he votado a mujeres y me gustaría seguir haciéndolo, no puedo apoyar a Marsha Blackburn”, ha dicho. “Sus votaciones en el Congreso me horroriza y me aterroriza”, ha añadido.

Blackburn votó en contra de la Ley de la Violencia contra las Mujeres, “que quiere proteger a las mujeres de la violencia doméstica”, considera que “los negocios tienen derecho a denegar sus servicios a parejas gays” y que “no deberían tener derecho a casarse”, ha criticado Taylor Swift, que ha dicho que estos no son sus valores.

Por este motivo, ha anunciado su apoyo a Phil Bredesen para el Senado y a Jim Cooper para la Cámara de los Representantes, y ha pedido a sus seguidores que conozcan a los candidatos de cada uno de sus estados y voten teniendo en cuenta a “quien más represente tus valores”.

“Muchos de nosotros puede que no encontremos un candidato o partido con quien estemos de acuerdo al 100% en todos los temas, pero tenemos que votar de todas maneras”, ha dicho.
Además, ha llamado a todos aquellos que pueden votar por primera vez a que se animen a “hacer que su voto cuenta” y les ha recordado cuándo es el último día para registrarse y poder votar en las elecciones de noviembre.
