Thailand cancels hundreds of flights due to popular lantern festival
The flight cancellations will affect the Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai airports, to the north of the country. During three days thousands of candle-lit paper lanterns are released into the sky. Authorities have banned the release of lanterns before 9:00pm and have requested the collaboration of neighbors of Chiang Mai, where last year 1,500 offerings fell near the airport.
Two airports in northern Thailand have canceled hundreds of flights during the Loy Krathong Festival, in which thousands of lanterns are released in the sky. The measure will affect around 20,000 passengers of domestic and international flights.
