Macri ends twelve years of Kirchner rule

Mauricio Macri’s campaign team celebrated its victory to the rhythm of reggaeton, while the defeated Scioli might well have danced a sad tango. Argentina has decided to give impetus to a new way of doing politics and has decided to support the leader of ‘Cambiemos’, and put aside the dominant Peronism of the past 70 years. The narrow victory with less than three points separating him from his rival shows a divided country, as is also the legislative power. Macri is minority in Congress and the Senate, and will need plenty of negotiation to govern. Macri will take office on December 10 and relieve President Cristina Fernandez (2007-2015).
