Race for the world’s largest telescope: construction in Magallanes begins

A group led by the United States has begun the construction of the world’s largest telescope for 2021 in the Magallenes Province of Chile. It’s going against other two projects: the Thirty Meter Telescope in Hawaii and the European E-ELT, also in Chile.
