More Than Flames in Temples

Iraq is one of the countries in which believers have had to flee. During the regime of Saddam Hussein 1,700,000 were estimated. Currently, there are 170,000 Christians. They are demanded to convert to Islam or to pay amounts of money they lack, which is why they are forced to flee. In other cases, they are beheaded.

People are crucified and children buried alive just for being Christians.

The UN denounces it. It is part of the persecution in the Middle East.

The Christian population is being terrified. Churches sacked and burned.

For more than two thousand years Christians have been present in these lands. Muslims arrived in the 7th century and they have their claim… what some believe is a Holy War.

But it is not a matter of establishing belongings…

Faith, whichever professed, is based on love, on the tolerance of other religious creeds.

The burning of temples, such as the most recent destruction of three churches in Tanzania, where Christians have been receiving threats from Islamic extremists, is a completely criminal act that cannot be justified with a religious end.

It is a manipulation of the vulnerable population to rise against each other.

Those of us who live under circumstances of complete freedom, cannot, and should not stay on the sidelines. It is not a matter of what religion we have, but rather a matter of uniting the world in a single voice of respect, tolerance, and love for the thousands of persecuted Christians.

We summon international actions for this population.
